Is your agenda more important than Truth?

Jesus had more than a few encounters with people who were so committed to their own agendas that they tripped over Truth…even when it…or He…was right in front of them.

Mark 3:1-6 is one of those encounters.

In this encounter, the religious leaders had an agenda. They wanted to accuse Jesus…of something… of anything!! They were looking for scandal…dirt…good gossip…something He did wrong…to “get Him.”

In this episode, Jesus healed someone on a day the Pharisees held sacred…the Sabbath. A rule they created. “No healing on the Sabbath.”

Jesus healed anyway. To Him, people are more important than policy or man made rules. He chose to help someone rather than to follow their rules.

The religious leaders were irate…but speechless. They couldn’t…and wouldn’t…respond to Jesus’ questions to them.

When Jesus healed the man, what did the religious leaders do? They started planning how to kill Jesus. Do away with him. Smear him in the press. Make Him look bad. Get Him.

And they missed the Truth. In fact, apparently, they weren’t concerned with Truth…rather, with their own biases and agendas.

Why weren’t they at least curious how the miracle happened…immediately? Did they not wonder how this man, who called himself the Messiah, could do this? Could it be true that He really was who He claimed to be? Could this simple man really be God and be sent as the Messiah (Chosen One)? Could this be a new day? A new beginning?

Yet, they were so caught up in their own stuff…their own agendas…their own plans and priorities…that they missed The Truth. Their agenda took the day (for them). They missed Truth. They missed Life. They missed out (and they had no clue).

You?

What drives you? Your dreams? Your goals? Your desires? Your plans? Your agendas? or Truth?

Where does Truth fit into your game plan for life?

It’s ok to have dreams, goals, plans, agendas…but don’t have them apart from Truth. Don’t trip over Truth while chasing your dreams…or your own important agendas!!!

And remember…Jesus is the Truth…and the Way…and the Life (John 14:6).
