It’s All God….Or Is It?

Here’s the story:

Someone does something great…wins an award, accomplishes something others said couldn’t be done, aces an exam, saves a marriage, raises a great kid…whatever…someone else notices and says “wow, you have done a really nice job”…to which the first person responds “It’s all God” or “God gets all the credit.”

Really?

Check out Mark 4:26-29.

26 And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. 28 The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come. (Mark 4:26-29 ESV)

I love this story. Who produced the harvest? Did God do it alone? Did the farmer do it alone? It took both. One could not do what they did without the other.

Read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John in the Bible. You will see God (Jesus) moving when people believed. Faith (or the lack of it) often activated (or de-activated) God’s (Jesus’) response.

Even in God’s economy, it takes two to tango. Throughout the Bible and history, He has chosen to use people to carry His agenda forward. Could He have done it by Himself? Absolutely. But often He doesn’t. He chooses to use people like you and me in His game plan.

So take heart, when you (and God) do something great…yes, it’s God…but it’s not “All” God….it’s you and God.
